This weekend, Newcastle United walk out at Wembley with a chance to finally bring home silverware after nearly 70 years of waiting.
For us Newcastle fans, cup finals have been few and far between, but historically they have given us some of the greatest moments in the club’s history.
As we prepare to take on Liverpool, I wanted to look back at Newcastle’s most iconic cup final moments in history 👇
Milburn's Lightning Strike – 1955 FA Cup Final ⚡
The 1955 FA Cup Final remains Newcastle United’s last major trophy win, but it was the opening moments that truly made history.
Just 45 seconds into the match against Manchester City, Jackie Milburn stunned Wembley by scoring one of the fastest goals in FA Cup Final history.
His blistering run set the tone for a dominant Newcastle display, with Bobby Mitchell and George Hannah adding further goals in a 3-1 victory.
For many fans, this final epitomized Newcastle’s golden era - a time when the Magpies were one of England’s most feared cup sides.
The 'Phantom Goal' Controversy – 1932 FA Cup Final 👻
One of the most controversial moments in FA Cup history came in Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the 1932 final.
With Arsenal leading 1-0, Newcastle’s Jimmy Richardson chased down what seemed to be a lost cause, crossing the ball back into play before it had fully crossed the goal line.
Jack Allen converted the chance, and Newcastle went on to win, but Arsenal players were incensed (hmm, sounds familiar) - replays later showed the ball had indeed gone out of play.
The goal stood, and Newcastle lifted the trophy, but the match remains one of the most debated FA Cup Finals of all time.
