Gordon’s suspension: can we fight it? 🟥

Newcastle’s trip to Wembley just got a whole lot tougher.

Anthony Gordon’s late red card against Brighton means he’s now facing a 3 match suspension, ruling him out of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

Can Newcastle Appeal?

Yes, but overturning the decision won’t be easy.

The club has two working days to submit an appeal, and they need to prove that referee Anthony Taylor made an obvious mistake in brandishing the red card.

Here’s the problem: VAR checked the incident and didn’t intervene, which means the FA will likely back the decision.

Successful appeals in the VAR era are rare, unless there’s overwhelming evidence that the call was wrong.

If Newcastle does appeal, here’s what could happen:

  • Ban overturned – Gordon is back for Wembley, and Newcastle gets a huge boost.
  • Ban upheld – He misses the final plus two crucial league matches.
  • ⚠️ Ban extended – If the FA deems the appeal 'frivolous', they could increase it to four matches.

It’s a high-risk, high-reward situation, and Eddie will have to decide if it’s worth the gamble.

He had already stated that if he "feels there’s grounds for that, we will do without hesitation.”
