โThe wait is almost over - in just 2 days, Newcastle are back at Wembley for another shot at glory in the Carabao Cup final.
Liverpool, however, will be doing everything they can to spoil the party, looking to add another piece to their impressively large EFL Cup collection.
How are both teams looking ahead of Sunday? Letโs break down the key stats, team news and everything else you need to know before the big day ๐
Newcastle's Path to the Final ๐
Newcastleโs journey to Wembley has been yet again full of drama. We started with a tense penalty win over Nottingham Forest in the second round, followed by a narrow 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.
The Magpies then took on Chelsea in the fourth round and secured a solid 2-0 win, just days after losing to Chelsea in the Premier League.
A comfortable 3-1 victory over Brentford in the quarter-finals sent us into the semis, where we beat Arsenal 4-0 on aggregate with our best performances in the competition so far.
Team News: Whoโs In and Whoโs Out? ๐ค
As youโre probably aware, we do have a few key players missing for the final.
Anthony Gordon is suspended after his red card in the FA Cup, and defenders Sven Botman and Lewis Hall are both side-lined through unfortunate recent injuries.
Isak is expected to lead the attack, with appearances from Barnes and Willock likely to play important roles in the absence of Gordon.
Liverpool also have some problems of their own, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley unlikely to feature due to injury.
Head-to-Head: What the Stats Say ๐ข
Historically, Liverpool have dominated this matchup, with 94 wins to Newcastleโs 50 in their 189 meetings.
The last time they faced off in the Premier League, Liverpool won 2-0 at Anfield, though the previous meeting at St. James' Park ended in a 3-3 draw.
This is Newcastleโs third Carabao Cup final in history, having finished as runners-up in 1976 and 2023.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are the most successful team in the competition, with 10 wins.
